On Thursday December 18th at 12 noon, TCFL seniors will be showcasing their independent, creative renditions of the cold war — the confrontational ideological and military armed race between the US and its allies and the Soviet Union and it satellites.

The Cold War Bazaar” will bring to life a market of nearly-forgotten chapters and even footnotes of the following historical events: the Soviet invasion of Hungary (1956) and Czechoslovakia (1968); the difficult independences of the Congo (1960) and Angola (1975) trapped among NATO, the Warsaw Pact and Cuban troops; the US invasions of Grenada (1983) and Panama (1989); Chile and Salvador Allende’s 9/11 (1973); the unkindest socialist cut of them all — the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia; Operation Condor and US hegemony in South America; Camilo Torres and Liberation Theology in Latin America; the Baltic States’ experience with Communism; Freedom-fighters and the tag of “communist” — the experience of activists in apartheid South Africa and Australia; and US families in search of “sugarcandy mountain” in the perfection of Soviet communism.

ALL ARE INVITED.
