TCFL students present their research on mobile money in Punta Cana

By Maria Sullivan

A group of our Secondary students spent three months studying how families in Punta Cana use mobile payments, and presented their findings to an audience of teachers, parents and local business owners.

From a classroom question to fieldwork

The project began with a simple question in an economics class: why do some neighbours pay with their phone and others still carry cash? Instead of answering it from a textbook, the students designed a survey, went out to interview people, and came back with data nobody had collected before.

The presentation closed with a set of recommendations for local shops. Several of the business owners in the room asked for a copy of the report.
